ISSUE

Globally, 92 million tons of textile waste is produced each year. In the US alone over 32 kilograms textiles are thrown away annually by consumers, amounting to 17 million tons of waste, only 2.5 tons of which is recycled.

SOLUTION

The benefits of recycled materials are clear. Reusing textiles in clothing has 70 times lower environmental impact than that of new clothes, as well as creating huge reductions in chemical and water usage which in turn improves soil quality and stops water being diverted from surface and groundwater sources.

RECYCLING | The concept of recycling is to deconstruct waste into new and useful raw materials; such as recycling PET bottles into yarn, or recycling cotton and linen, etc.

UPCYCLING | The concept of upcycling is to make practical use of existing resources and reimagine them as higher value items, such as transforming discarded fabrics into new products.
